¿Cómo se construye una ruina? (How do you build a ruin?), 2021

Site-specific intervention with clay tiles

In this intervention, I try to map and leave behind “new vestiges” of a preexisting structure within an abandoned building that served as exhibition site. As we cleared the space, we also did a sort of archeology: excavating and finding the floor of the structure that was buried underneath the earth.

Assimilating the design of the structure through observations of the ground, I decide to repair the spaces where I speculate that there were doors. It seems strange to repair the floor of these non-spaces because these are the areas that go unnoticed on a daily basis in our own architectures. I find it necessary to repair them in order to intensify a daily life ritual; marking that tension that is so commonly overlooked when entering a new room.
